Paint correction in Prospect, CT

Multi-stage correction under high-lumen detailing lights, one vehicle in the bay at a time.

Swirls only show under a strip light

Swirls and holograms are fine scratches in the clear coat. In shade or on a cloudy day the paint looks black and deep. Put a strip light or a swirl light on the same panel and every scratch lights up as a web of arcs.

That is why the bay is lit the way it is. Before any polishing starts, the car is inspected under multiple high-lumen detailing lights, so the work is aimed at what is really in the paint and not at what shows in the parking lot.

It is also why the before and after frames on this page are shot under one light. The panel does not change position between them. Only the scratches do.

The sequence, wash to tires dressed

Paint correction here is an advanced multi-stage exterior detail, and the polishing is the middle of it, not the whole of it. The car is hand-washed in foam, chemically decontaminated and clayed first, so the pads only ever meet clean paint.

Decontamination removes 99% of bonded contaminants. Sensitive areas are taped before the machine comes out. Machine compounding and polishing then cuts through 95% of surface imperfections, with a minimum of 30 minutes on every panel at every stage.

The wheels and tires get a deep clean, the windows are cleaned and the tires are dressed. The full list is set out step by step just below.

The clear coat is finite

Correction works by cutting the clear coat, which removes a thin layer of it. For that reason it can only be performed a limited amount of times per vehicle. It is a reset for the paint, not a yearly service.

What you do afterward decides how long the result lasts: gentle washing, and a ceramic coating if you want the finish protected. Ask about a coating when you book, so the correction and the coating are planned as one job.

Paint correction starts at $599 for a Coupe/Small Sedan, quoted by email once the shop knows the make, the model and what bothers you about the finish.

30 minutes per panel, per stage

The full list, in order

  1. Wash

    Ph Balanced Foam Hand-Wash

Foam and a hand wash lift the loose dirt first, so nothing gritty is dragged across the paint later.

  2. Decon

    Chemical Paint Decontamination

Removes 99% of bonded contaminants from the paint before a polisher touches it.

  3. Clay

    Aggressive Clay Bar

A clay pass over the paint, then the car is re-inspected under multiple high-lumen detailing lights.

  4. Correct

    3-Stage Paint Correction

Sensitive areas taped, then machine compounding and polishing cuts through 95% of surface imperfections. At least 30 minutes per panel per stage, with new pads every stage.

  5. Wheels

    Deep Wheel & Tire Cleaning

Baked-on brake dust and road film come off the wheels and the tires.

  6. Glass

    Windows Cleaned

Included in the same visit, so the car leaves clean through the glass too.

  7. Finish

    Tires Dressed

The last item on the list, so the tires leave looking as finished as the paint.

Correction cuts the clear coat, so it can only be performed a limited amount of times per vehicle. That is why it is quoted car by car and not sold as a routine.
